AWF SURVIVOR SERIES REVIEW!
What better way to spend America's Birthday than with a new edition of Zaiah Meltzer's CAW Show Reviews!
I'M BACK! Sort of. I never left I just haven't found time to review shows as of late. Hopefully this week, that will be able to change. Anyway, let's hope right back into with a new show on the Zaiah Meltzer Reviews, AWF, and their newest show "Survivor Series"!
As always, these are my non-kayfaybe opinions and probably shouldn't be taken too seriously. With that said, ON TO THE REVIEW!
AWF SURVIVOR SERIES STAR RATINGS:
Tyler Watson vs Brandon Wolfe - CAW All-Stars Championship - ***3/4 (Very good opening contest between Watson and Wolfe. There were a couple of slow moments and slight mishaps here and there, but nothing major to really mess up the pacing of this contest. Watson did a very good job of playing up the heel in this contest and slowing down Brandon Wolfe in general. Wolfe put on a great performance as always. Providing a lot of highlight reel moments and a cool finishing sequence. Overall, a damn good way to open up a show.)
Brian Stone vs Fisk - Extreme Champion vs Internet Champion - **1/2 (This was good for what it was and, to be quite honest, I was kind of disappointed on how this one ended. Brian came into this contest with all of the confidence in the world until he got absolutely humbled by Fisk. He was beaten down, thrown around, and everything in between. He would later give much more of a fight as the match went on and looked to get things back in his favor, but Fisk would just use his size advantage to gain control over and over again. The match came to an abrupt end when Zane Lefonte and Nitro came down and caused a DQ on Fisk. Fisk and Brian would end up taking both men out, but Mason Kronik would come out of nowhere and lay out Fisk. Quite possibly accepting his challenge for CAW All-Stars 11… Oh boy.)
Big Dwayne & Dynamite vs The Exterminators - ***1/2 (Very solid tag team match to say the least. It was very clear that The Exterminators were the more well oiled machine in this one. Dwayne and Dynamite most certainly had the strength and size advantage in this one, however, I believe that Hawkins and Thompson gelled better as a tag team. They showed an abundance of tag team maneuvers and chemistry that it was hard for Dwayne and Dynamite to keep up. There were some very awkward moments in this match though. Like their were points where wrestlers would stand still for just a little too long and it would mess with the pacing of the match. Other than though, This was still a good tag team match between the 4 other men.)
Ben Hopkins vs John Blackos - Junior Champion vs US Champion - ****1/4 (Dope ass match. Very fast paced and action packed. A true Jrs. match in every since of the word. Blackos tried to get the surprise on Hopkins by attacking him before he even finished his entrance. He stayed on Hopkins for a good few minutes before Hopkins would eventually fight back. From that point on, it was just full throttle. There were no shortages of kicks, high flying moves, and tons of false finishes. It honestly looked like either man could have taken in it at any moment and that was one of the many reasons why this match was so damn fun to watch. In the end though, Hopkins would get the victory with the Descent to Madness and put Blackos away. After the match, Brandon Wolfe came down and had a stare down with Hopkins to do a short little build up towards their match come CAW All-Stars.)
JMI vs Travis Sparks - AWF Million Dollar Championship - **** (Pretty great match up to be honest. A lot more “indy” compared to the other matches on this card. I mean, it was filled to the brim with high spots and dangerous maneuvers. I thought that Travis Sparks looked pretty damn good as the match continued forward and JMI played up his heel role almost perfectly. Everything moved at a great pace and the match rarely slowed down or had any boring moments. It really sticks out a lot more from the other matches on this card (in a good way of course). So yeah, thumbs up from me on this contest)
AJ Young vs Shawn O’Connor - AWF World Heavyweight Champion vs AWF Champion - ***1/2 (This one was a good match, but also a bit disappointing considering who the two men were in this contest. I believe that both AJ and Shawn have two of some of the most interesting character aspects in all of virtual wrestling and, in my opinion, I don’t think those aspects were played up much in this match. This was a very standard singles match for the most part. Which isn’t bad, it just didn’t do much to separate itself from other matches on this card. There were some cool reversal moments like AJ Young countering a GTS into a Young Disaster and so forth. I think the biggest problem would be that both men hit their big moves a little too early in the match and, after that, they really didn’t have much to work on. This match still has plenty of really good wrestling and moments, it’s just that I believe it could’ve been way much more if the pacing was just a bit better.)
Team Uprising (GMR, Christopher Wonder, Steven Syntax, & Mason Kronik) vs Team Superstar Mayhem (Scott Adams, Shawn Riley, Malik Brown, and Nathan Vale) - ***3/4 (A very story driven elimination style tag match match here. Filled with tag team drama and a lot of character driven moments. It started out with Superstar Mayhem actually looking like the better team for a good while. And then tensions began to flare between Vale and Adams, and the whole plan went out the window. From that point forward, you pretty much had Kronik doing most of the work after his team got eliminated. Pretty much decimating both Vale and Adams for their incompetence. From there on, you had a one on one match with Malik and Kronik and they have a very good outing to close this one off. There were a lot of awkward moments with some guys just standing still and waiting for their spots. Others would include the referee just being an asshole and missing his cue. But I believe that the pure storytelling of this match makes up for a majority of the weird moments and botches in this contest. It ain’t perfect, but it does a damn good job setting up for future storylines.)
OVERALL SCORE: 7.75/10 (A very fun show to say the least. I think the highlight reel portions of this show is were some of the issues came in. I think the editing could’ve been a bit better when it came to those segments or parts of the show. Other than that, most of the matches were highly entertaining and the storylines were progressed. Quality of the show was good for the majority of it and there were never really any dull moments throughout this CPV as well. So a general thumbs up from me as far as this show goes.)
I am going to be doing something very special in the next coming of days. In celebration of VWU Prestige 2 coming out, I will FINALLY be reviewing all of CAW[n]Spiracy from earlier this year! I will most likely be reviewing one or two shows a day, so be on the lookout for that. And as always, if you have a show you want me to review next time, leave a suggestion in the comment section below.
