NDP XANADU 2 REVIEW!
With worse fan service than BJW Core, Zaiah Metlzer is back with some more CAW show reviews!
On this edition, we are going to be looking at New Dawn's biggest show of the year, XANADU 2!
As always, these are my non-kayfaybe opinions and shouldn't be taken too seriously. With that said, ON TO THE REVIEW!
XANADU 2 Star Ratings:
Ryu Hayabusa v Kid Buu v Megaman v Red X v Tarzan v Scarlet Spider - ***1/2 - It would only be right to start off one the craziest nights in virtual wrestling with an insane 6 man jr. showcase. As is expected, this one was filled to the brim with insane moves and pretty stunning moments as well. There wasn’t much structure, but then again, you rarely think there would be any considering… Well… its a New Dawn Pro show. However, this was still very fun to watch and with the commentary all over the place as well, it fit the tone the show was trying to set. In the end it would come down to Megaman vs Ryu and Ryu would come out the victor with an arm trapped chin lock that he calls the Hayabusa special. Good start to the show.
4-Way Tag Team Elimination Contender Match - BWO vs Galaxy Quest vs Riverdale vs ??? - ***1/2 - So this contest already had three teams announced with the 4th team being a mystery. The 4th team in this match turned out to be ghostbusters so good on them. This one was pretty much on par with the first match with how absolutely insane it was and, to be fair, the eliminations happened at a good pace to not overstay their welcome. The fight between the final two of Jughead Jones and Ray also turned out to be pretty nail biting as well and added a lot of drama as the two battled on. Not much else to say on this one except it was an absolute clusterfuck of a match and it worked.
Golden Ticket Ladder Match - Dante v Vegeta v Incineroar v Bane vs Colossus v Simon Belmont v Kakashi Hatake v Gene Starwind. - ***1/2 - Not much that I can say about this match that I pretty much haven’t said about the others. Just another crazy ass multi man match with a lot of insane spots, but nothing really more than that. It was just a pure car crash to say the least. I will say though that the commentary booth tended to get even more insane as the night went on (totally not my fault). This ladder match didn’t last very long and it was honestly pretty standard as far as normal multi man ladder matches
Paige vs Sakura Hagiwara - **3/4 - This was just a pretty standard match to be quite honest. Especially for a Sakura match. They didn’t really do anything spectacular nor did they have a particularly bad match. It was just kind of a cool down after the craziness that we got from the first 3 matches. Paige was very much vicious in this and Sakura seemed to have a counter for most things Paige had planned. There were some cool moments however, like the diving senton from Sakura and Paige doing like 2 dives on top of Sakura from the top rope. In the end, Sakura would pick up another victory as she continues down her rocky path currently in the year 2019. Nothing to write home about but also not that bad either.
Jeff Hardy vs A-Pac Aries - ****1/4 - Most certainly the best match of the night so far. It was just pure back and forth for about 20 minutes and it was excellent. These two pretty much wrestled the style you would expect which was wild and very unpredictable. One of the things that made this match so great was that you never knew when it was going to end. Every time these two hit each other with a big move, they would kick out. It made so that you were just waiting with baited breath, who would win by the end of this. One detriment to this match, I will say, would be the constant tries for the Swanton by Jeff and him MISSING EVERY SINGLE ONE. I probably would have edited that out but that’s just me. Other than that, this was just a crazy ass contest that brought the show up a peg.
Last Man Standing - Jason Voorhes vs Bowser - ***1/2 - A pretty brutal affair if I do say so myself. There was a point where Bowser gave Jason 3 German suplexes and bounced his head off both the guard rail and the steel steps. That’s how destructive this match got at times. The match does suffer though simply because it’s an A.I last man standing match. Which means there’s a lot of slow moments and waiting for a person to get up and this happens WAY too often in this contest. However, this still saw two big men tossing each other across the ring many times so I can’t complain too much. I probably just wouldn’t go with a last man standing stip from now on if my matches are going to be A.I. Very good match with a lot of waiting time.
Fantasy Road Championship - Homer vs Monkey D. Luffy - ****1/4 - So this was a great way to end part 1 of Xanadu 2. Homer and Luffy put on quite the show in this title match as they beat the unholy hell out of one another for that championship belt. This contest was filled with high spots, reversals, and big maneuvers that worked so well in the long run. Luffy has been on a role as of late with these big time matches and this one is no exception. These two hit one another with everything but the kitchen sink. It was to the point where Homer had to win the match with a small package just to catch Luffy off guard with something he wasn’t expecting. An absolute spectacle to watch.
NDP Jr. Tag Team Titles - Kingdom Hearts vs Bad Boys Club vs The Animaniacs - ***1/4 - We start off part 2 with, what else, another multi man tag match. This time it’s a ladder match so, you know, a bit o a change of pace here. I honestly don’t know what to say about these multi man matches at this point. They are pure chaos and rampage and if you’re into that sort of thing, chances are you are going to like this match. I rated this one a half a star lower from the others because it really doesn’t offer anything new that the other multi man matches didn’t already deliver on. Cool gimmick match, but the fatigue on these multi man matches are starting to wear a bit.
NDP Tag Team Titles - Sofaking Awesome vs The DBZ Syndicate - **1/2 - I have always said that doing A.I tag matches can be very dangerous because they can either turn out boring or very chaotic. And unfortunately for this match, it most certainly wasn’t the latter. To be quite fair, the match was ok. The two teams didn’t really do anything spectacular or incredibly noteworthy, but it was still passable. I like Sofaking Awesome as a group and The DBZ Syndicate looking for revenge after losing to this team before is a good story to go off of, but this match simply lacked drama and it definitely put a damper on this contest. A nice little tag match but a bit mundane compared to everything else on this show.
Six Madman Elimination Chamber - NDP Anarchy Championship - Jack Skellington vs Ghostface vs Jack Torrance vs Pennywise vs Beetlejuice vs Ash Williams - ***3/4 - A damn good Elimination Chamber that was enhanced by one person: Ash Williams. And this isn’t me taking away from the other people in this contest because they were great too. But thanks to the help from the commentary booth, they had you cheering on Ash Williams from the very beginning and, guess what, he kicked ass. As far as the match goes, it was pretty much a typical Chamber match. A lot climbing up the structure and diving off, using the the chamber as a weapon, and so forth. The match ended with Ash hitting a Death Valley driver on Jack and winning the title. A feel good moment to say the least.
NDP Big Boi Championship - Optimus Prime vs Predator - ***3/4 - Aw hell yea, Love me some hoss fights and this one was no exception. As you could probably tell, these two beat the shit out of one another and it was great. Both men pretty much tossed each other around for awhile until one of them couldn’t stand no more. Nothing too fancy here, but there was no room to be when you’re just duking it out in the squared circle. This match gets a 1/4* taken off tho because the commentary is way out of synch on this one and it becomes very distracting. Which I could say for the other matches here, but its really noticeable in this match. Other than that, just a really good big man fight.
NDP Zero-G Championship: Gumball Watterson vs Scott Pilgrim vs Darth Maul vs Sub-Zero - ***3/4 - Pretty much the absolute opposite of the last match we had. This was just full speed chaos at its finest. Pretty much similar to the multi man matches we had in part 1. Though I would say that this match had a better finishing stretch than either of those contests. This consisted of a bunch of stuff you would expect from a match like this. Diving spots, dangerous moments, and all out war. Again, a big problem with this match isn’t the match itself, it’s the out of synch commentary. It is very distracting. The finish saw Pilgrim vs Maul and they beat the hell out of each other. Both men hitting their big moves until Scott was finally able to put him away with the a swinging neckbraeker (I don’t know what the name of the move is because HITKID SCREAMED IT INTO THE MICROPHONE LIKE A GOD DAMN BANSHEE) and got the win. A fun chaotic mess.
NDP Sirens XX Championship - Tifa Lockheart vs Jenn - **** - This was such a great match. It started out with Tifa just dominating at the early stages, like most people would’ve guessed, but Jenn actually took the fight to Tifa as the match went on. After that, Jenn slowly started to get accustomed to Tifa’s strategy and used her own to catch Tifa off guard. Once they were on equal footing, it was down to find out who had the better game plan in order to win the title. This was so exceptionally good and told a great story in the process. You went in thinking Jenn had no chance and then, as the match went on, had doubts on whether Tifa could actually beat this woman or not. It did a good job of playing with your expectations and kept you on a wild ride through its entirety. Wonderful job by these two women.
NDP Holy Grail Championship - Ash Ketchum vs Freddy Kruger - ***1/4 - A pretty good, back and forth contest. Although, if I’m being honest, this was a bit more tame than I was expecting. These two didn’t really mess anything up and it everything was done exceptionally well. However, this match lacked a bit of excitement that needed to compete with the other matches on this card. They did some cool moves and spots like Freddy hitting Ash with a middle rope codebreaker and a spinning pump handle driver. I don’t know, it felt like something from this match and it didn’t feel as big as the others. A decent match nonetheless however
NDP Sirens Championship - Harley Quinn vs Becky Lynch - ***3/4 - This was a much better match than the one prior. Don’t get me wrong, this one is filled with mistimed spots and botches, but god damn if this match wasn’t an interesting one. Harley just would not go away and gave Becky a run for her money as the match continued. Becky hit her with exploders, a Croyt’s wrath, and at least 3 dis-arm-her’s and Harley still continued to fight. It took Harley everything she had to hit a 450 and the Puddin Pop to finally finish off Becky and retain her title. This match isn’t perfect, but it plays up the drama factor so much better than the last match, which already puts it above it already. This felt like a title fight through and through.
NDP Intercontinental Championship - Speedy vs Green Arrow - ***3/4 - A highly anticipated match up going into Xanadu 2, and it delivered in my opinion. This was a much shorter match than what I was expecting, but it was also one of the most heated. Once the bell rung, these two held nothing back and immediately tried to finish each other off. Speedy got Arrow in the first half with his big moves and a super kick, but Green Arrow would get back into it and would fend off his former protege up until the very end. Speaking of the ending, it came to an absolute shock to everyone as Speedy would hit a super kick out of nowhere and get the victory over the former UCWL World Champion. A big win for Speedy and one of the more surprising moments on this entire show.
NDP Crazy Stuffed Championship - V-Pac vs Mr Krabs -**1/2 - So The Don announced that we would be getting an impromptu title match between Mr Krabs and V-Pac because OF COURSE WE FUCKING ARE ITS XANADU 2! HAVE YOU NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION AT ALL?! To be quite honest I’m not sure why this match happened, but it did give V-Pac a little moment on this show. It didn’t really bring anything to the table that the others haven’t, however it was decent. V got distracted by a rouge titantron for a minute and Mr Krabs took advantage. So… That happened. This would all lead up to V hitting the V-Pacinator and winning the Crazy Stuffed Championship. So congrats V-Pac… I guess.
NDP World Championship - 2 out of 3 Falls - Vega vs Nightwing - ****3/4 - This was the perfect match to close out this crazy ass night. Vega going in here as the the babyface looking to dethrone Nightwings reign of terror in NDP, but Nightwing would not go without a fight. He put Vega through literal hell with at least 7 Bloodhavens and SO. MANY. GOOMBA. STOMPS. Hell, we didn’t even get to the first fall of this match until like the 20 minute mark. These two did battle on the outside, inside, and destroyed one another with weapons. It was absolutely chaotic and what made it better was the finish to this one. I won’t spoil it, but I will say that it is indeed a satisfying one to close out this show.
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5/10 (Despite the recurring error of the out of sync audio, this was still NDP’s best show to date. Everything on this card ranged from good to absolutely fantastic and it was met with a great ending as well. I’m not sure if the match card needed to be as long as it did, but I would say that nothing on this card really bothered me that much. If Adam works a bit on his editing, he could potentially be running the best Fantasy CAW show around, because this show proves that he has all the tools to make that happen.)
I'm going to see If I can get at least one review out for each day for like a week, but I make no promises. But, as always, if you have a show you want me to review next, leave a suggestion in the comment section below.
