QOW SERENITY REVIEW!
With more inconsistent moments than a Dolph Ziggler push, Zaiah Metlzer is back yet again with another CAW Show review!
On this edition, we are going be taking a look at the Queens of Wrestling even, Serenity!
As always, these are my non-kayfaybe opinions and shouldn't be taken too seriously. With that said, ON TO THE REVIEW!
Queens of Wrestling Serenity Star Ratings:
Domino vs Faith Conners - *** - A good opening match. Nothing spectacular but a good starting point for this show. This was a preview match for the upcoming Queens of Wrestling tournament to display the skills of the participants involved. Faith looked to favor a much more strike oriented offense and the same could almost be said for domino as well. As you could guess, this was a very hard hitting affair between the two and did a good job of showing what we can expect from these two come the real Queens of Wrestling Tournament. This one did last very long, but for what it was, it still did a solid job of getting the show going.
Yang Xiao Long vs Lightning - ***1/2 - A very hard hitting, champion vs champion contest between two badass women. Yang currently one of my favorites in CAW, being the ACL Lioness Champion, with her explosive strength and dangerous hands. Lightning being the self-proclaimed GOAT and SEA Queens of Roses Champion, provided an all-around style to combat against Yang’s lack of experience. The story seemed to be Lightning would hit Yang with everything she had and Yang would either not go down or would kick out every time. Lightning seemed to have no answer for what Yang was bringing and, by the end of it, Yang would be the one getting the upset victory against the veteran Lightning. Simple story followed by really good wrestling. What more could you ask for?
Tia Benson vs Ayumi Otanashi - ****1/4 - A fantastic contest between two of some of my favorites. Tia Benson, who I see as someone who has a lot of star making potential, and Ayumi Otanashi, one of the most underrated females in virtual wrestling, delivered a battle for the ages. Filled with suplexes and big strikes, this is as big of a strong style affair as you will probably ever see in a virtual wrestling ring. Ayumi tried to catch Tia off guard a few times with her high flying ability, but Tia would not be easily fooled and used her strength to counter Ayumi’s speed. From then on, it was anyone’s match really. It was all about who could get that final big move in order to end the match, which led to a pretty good final stretch to say the least. I will say, a bit of a detriment to this contest is that sometimes they would repeat spots, which were noticeable but didn’t hurt the match too badly. This was still a very well thought out match that you should go out of your way to see.
Wonder Woman vs Celeste Amira - ***3/4 - In what is seen as a dream match for some in the virtual wrestling community, Celeste Amira took on Wonder Woman in this brutal no holds barred match. Not one move or weapon was barred in this contest, as these women used everything available to them to incapacitate their opponent. Wonder Woman seemed to have the beginning stages of this match by simply outsmarting Celeste. But then Celeste would quickly evolve past Wonder Woman’s strategy and started using her ungodly strength to battle the Amazonian. This is the farthest thing from a wrestling match that you can get. This was a straight up war between two of the strongest women in virtual wrestling. However, I will say that there are a few problems with this match. Those being that sometimes, just like the last match, they would repeat a number of spots, had a few botches and hiccups, and as the contest went on, it started to drag. Other than that, this was still a really good no holds barred match.
Christie Monteiro vs Destiny Williams - ****3/4 - This match was absolutely insane and is for certain, one of the best matches of the year. From bell to bell, this is one of the most high octane battles you will probably ever see in virtual wrestling. This is the equivalent of a Dragon Gate style main event with the crazy ass spots, the close near falls, and the unbelievable closing sequence. It had everything and more and provided an absolute classic to watch. My only problem with the match is that it sometimes went a bit too fast and thus kind of made me tired watching a bit as there were very little slow moments in this contest. I think that just comes down to better pacing next time, but again, this is a small issue in this case. This was still an unbelievable contest to say the least.
Sakura Hagiwara vs Meiko Satomura - **** - This was a great match that could’ve been fantastic. However, the match goes on for a little too long. I will say tho, this did play out how I had hoped to. Meiko worked over Sakura for a majority of this contest and Sakura did her absolute best to battle through her injury. She decided to stay the course with her usual gameplay with the suplexes and such, but that turned out to do more bad than good. Meiko displayed a more athletic style than we are used to from her, but she still relied heavily on her strike based offense that we all know and love her for. The problems from this match are pretty much the same complaints I had from the Wonder Woman/Celeste match earlier. Too many repeated spots and went on far too long. Especially after the match that came before it, this one could’ve been shortened down a bit my opinion. Nonetheless, this was still a really good match and told a great story in the process.
Gina Carano vs Ronda Rousey - ***3/4 - A really good main event that told a good story, even though it took awhile to get there. I thought that the beginning stages of this match were a bit dull to be honest. Nothing really bad, but they didn’t really do anything great. It wasn’t until Shayna and Amber decided to get involve is when the match picked up. From then on it was practically whether or not Gina could keep her eyes on the prize and focus on defeating Ronda, instead of looking what was happening up the stage. The final sequence was also very well with it looking like both women could have taken it at any moment with one more signature blow. This thing has a slow start, but it does eventually build up into a hard fought main event match up.
OVERALL SCORE 8.25/10 (Probably one of the better shows on the QOW side. This felt more consistent than a lot of the VWU shows so far which makes for an easy viewing to say the least. The pacing could’ve been better as the last 3 matches on this card leave you feeling very exhausted towards the end. However, the match quality is still there and it set up a lot of promising matches in the near future. So all in all, a pretty great show heading into the QOW event.)
I still have more shows to review. However, if you have a show you want me to talk about on this page, leave a suggestion in the comment section below.
