UCWL TESTING THE LIMIT REVIEW
Coming live from his own bedroom, Zaiah Meltzer is back yet again for another virtual wrestling show review!
On this edition, we are going to be taking a look at UCWL's new and anticipated show, Testing the Limit! Featuring a plethora of exciting matches like Green Arrow vs Naruto!
As always, these are my non-kayfaybe opinions and shouldn't be taken too seriously. With that said,
ON TO THE REVIEW!
UCWL Testing the Limit Star Ratings
Daisy Johnson vs Revy - Unsanctioned Match - UCWL Women’s Championship - ***1/2 (A pretty good and brutal fight to open up the show. The good thing about Revy’s character in virtual wrestling is that she’s pretty much the Mick Foley of any situation you put her in. She can do hardcore and normal matches and never seem out of place in them. There were a lot of slow moments in here which sort of brought the match down a bit in my opinion, but it was mostly made up for with some cool moments like the flaming table spot near the end. Both women looked good in my opinion and no one came out looking like a chump by the end of this whole ordeal. So thumbs up from me as far as this match goes.)
The Rogues vs The Big Bang Theory - UCWL Tag Team Titles - ***1/2 (A perfectly fine tag team match with a very interesting ending. It’s no secret that I think The Big Bang Theory are probably one of the most overrated tag teams in virtual wrestling today, but they actually performed pretty well in this one. The Rogues got to work over them a bunch during the majority of this contest and even the babyface come back from both Leonard and Sheldon was pretty believable. As far as The Rogues go, they seem to have a handle on the old school heel type of tag team down pat. I’m hoping that their characters get more evolved as their winning streak continues. The ending of this match was the most note worthy thing about this contest and I am intrigued on where its going. Only time will tell how this goes, but I will be tuning in to see what happens next.)
Shimmer, Shine, & Captain Marvel vs Ashura - ***1/4 (So here we go. A battle between Enchantress, Devorah, & Hela against some of UCWL’s best female talent and Captain Marvel. Ok, alright I kid {no I don’t}, but for real though, this was a pretty solid contest. I’m not going to lie to you, the first 10 minutes of this match was kind of boring and dragged a bit. Ashura regained most of the control during that time and they didn’t really do anything exciting or cool so the match felt a bit cold. It wasn’t until the babyfaces started getting some offense near the end is when the match started picking up. Shimmer, Shine, and Marvel all started to hit big moves and it looked like they had Ashura on the ropes. Hela would start to get desperate and would look for weapons but she got cut off by a returning Bindi Irwin who attacked her all the way to the back. From there, they would get rid of Devorah and get the victory over Enchantress. A feel good ending to this decent contest)
Monkey D. Luffy vs Matt Pharaoh - UCWL Cyberspace Championship - ***** (This might go down as THE match of the year in 2019. It’s going to be tough for any other match this year to top this in my honest opinion. This was just wonderful in every aspect of the word. This entire thing had me at the edge of my seat from the very beginning. From the comebacks all the way to the false finishes, there was always this air of excitement going on as the match went on. You had no idea how the match would end and the back and forth between the two was done so well that it made it hard to believe that this was all done completely by A.I. The only complaint that I have would be that Luffy did the same comeback twice in the span of like 5 minutes, but even then, that’s a small issue for such a glorious match. Do yourself a favor and seek this one out. It truly is a classic in every sense of the word. )
Yaiba Kamikaze vs Timmy Turner - UCWL Cruiser X-Division Championship - ***3/4 (I have never seen so much pure hatred for a character in my life. So a little background first. Batsu was suppose to be the opponent for Yaiba tonight, but before the match could get started, Batsu got taken out. This would lead to Yaiba not having a person to face and that would lead to PSPower coming out and introducing his first ever client, Timmy Turner. There was so much disgust, dislike, and loathing from everyone involved and it was fucking glorious. This was the probably the most heat I’ve ever seen for one match before. In one night, Yaiba became the biggest babyface on the UCWL roster just because of the man he was facing. Like literally every time Timmy got even the slightest bit of offense in, everyone would freak out. It was so well done. Of course this would all lead to Timmy actually winning the title and everyone getting ready to call for the end of the world. So all in all, I say this was a pretty successful debut for Timmy Turner.)
Kyo Kusanagi vs Light Yagami - ***3/4 (Another well worked contest between one of the best babyfaces in virtual wrestling and the absolute bastard of UCWL. This whole thing started when Light would attack Kyo from behind and take out his leg in the process. From that point on, it was basically Light working over Kyo’s leg for the majority of the contest and Kyo trying to fight back as much as possible. This match played up to both guys strengths very well which is one of the reason why it works. Light isn’t as much of a fighter as Kyo is, so he resorts to sneaky tactics in order to get the job done. Kyo, being the stubborn SOB that he is, would keep fighting until he had nothing left to give. Unfortunately for Kyo, he was only delaying the inevitable as Light would get the victory with a Calf Killer. After the match, Light would continue his assault by punting Kyo in the head twice and crushing his leg with a chair. Really good match and damn good way to get more heat on Light)
Nathan Explosion vs Hiei vs Zach Starr - VWU World Championship - ***3/4 (A world championship match with 3 of the strangest names to be in said contest and it was actually pretty good. The triple threat portion was honestly the weakest part of this whole thing to he honest though. Not to say it was bad, but nothing really memorable happened in the first 7 minutes of this match. It wasn’t until Yuri Boyka came down and took Nathan away from this match and we got the one on one between Hiei and Starr, is when the match really started to pick up. These two went fast paced and high energy against one another with both men hitting big move after big move. There was even a point where Hiei hit a standing springboard shooting star press on Starr that looked insane. However, it would be a shooting Starr press from Zach that would get the job done and help retain his VWU world title. A slow start with an a great ending portion)
Naruto Uzumaki vs Green Arrow - UCWL World Championship - ****1/4 (A fantastic main event which almost wasn’t going to happen after what happened at the beginning. So the match starts and before it can even get going, Speedy from New Dawn would send a message to his opponent at XANADU 2. Green Arrow, by attacking both him and Naruto causing the match to get thrown out. This would cause V-Pac to finally get involved and restart the match. From that point on, we had a proper world championship match and it was a damn good one at that. You had Naruto showing off more this mean streak that he has adapted into his style as of late and you also had Green Arrow showing that resiliency that he is most known for. These two would have a brutal exchange for about 20 minutes until the end where both men would go to the outside. From that point, it looked like Arrow had Naruto where he wanted him until Naruto would hit him with a low blow from out of nowhere. Naruto would follow up with a Rasengan for the 3 count and would become the new UCWL World Champion. Ending the Green Arrow’s historic title reign. After the match, Naruto would continue his attack on Green Arrow by putting him through a table and demolishing him with a kendo stick. A great main event with a great follow up)
However, this was not the end of the show yet. Before we went off air, it looked like a handful of the roster had been taken out. No one knew what was happening except Coulson for some reason and he took to the ring. He called out Roman because apparently he had something that Roman wanted… An infinity stone. The UCWL GM was hiding an infinity stone this entire time… You sure do know how to pick em, V. Anyway, this would lead to Roman coming out, but it turns out it wasn’t Roman at all. It was Thanos. Thanos would then proceed to kick the ever loving crap out of Coulson and take the stone for himself. This was… An ending I did not see coming. I am more than interested to see where this one goes because this is raising a whole lot of questions and not enough answers.)
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5/10 (UCWL continues to show why it’s one of the best fantasy leagues out there with another great show. Providing us with some really good wrestling, a match of the year candidate, and some memorable moments. Mostly everything was done very well and the show never seemed to drag, which is impressive for a 4 hour show. A lot of the storylines got advanced and even created some new stars along the way. The show made me interested to check out the new Showdown after this and is most likely going to make me that much more excited for Vendetta. You should most certainly give this show a watch if you haven’t already)
As always, I've still got more shows to get through. However, if you have a show you want me to review on this page, leave a suggestion in the comment section below.
